The Veyder Association – Solidarity with Palestine organised an awareness event for female students in the Esenyurt district of Istanbul to mark the 109th anniversary of the Balfour Declaration, under the slogan: "We will not forget our country Palestine.. a promise from those who do not own to those who do not deserve," aimed at introducing rising generations to the history of the Palestinian cause and strengthening their connection to their national identity.
The event opened with a speech by the association's representative in Esenyurt, which addressed the historical background of the Balfour Declaration issued in 1917, the pivotal juncture it represented in the course of the Palestinian cause, and the political and historical repercussions that followed, the effects of which the Palestinian people continue to bear amid the ongoing occupation and violations in the Gaza Strip and the rest of the Palestinian territories.
The programme included a visual presentation covering the circumstances in which the declaration was issued and its repercussions for Palestine, alongside drawing and colouring activities through which the students expressed their connection to Palestine with drawings that evoked heritage, national identity, attachment to the land and the right of return.
The event also featured a screening of video submissions by students in which they expressed their rejection of the Balfour Declaration, their pride in their Palestinian identity, and their adherence to the Palestinian people's right to their land and homeland.
The event comes within the Veyder Association's efforts to raise awareness of the Palestinian cause among members of the Palestinian people in the diaspora, preserve historical memory, and pass the Palestinian narrative on to new generations through educational and awareness activities.
