Istanbul – FiMED

The VİDAR Association for Solidarity with Palestine organised a women's gathering in the Esenyurt district of Istanbul on the 109th anniversary of the Balfour Declaration, under the slogan "We will not forget our homeland Palestine" and the phrase "a promise from those who do not own to those who do not deserve."

The gathering addressed the historical milestones of the Balfour Declaration and its ongoing repercussions for the Palestinian people, both inside Palestine and in refugee camps and areas of diaspora, highlighting Britain's historical responsibility for issuing the declaration that paved the way for the Zionist project in Palestine.

Participants also discussed the importance of preserving Palestinian national memory and familiarising new generations with the truth of the Balfour Declaration and its consequences, stressing that the responsibility for safeguarding Palestinian identity and narrative is not limited to institutions but extends to individuals, families and Palestinian communities in countries of refuge.

Participants stressed that more than a century since the Balfour Declaration does not nullify the rights of the Palestinian people or erase their memory, affirming their adherence to the land, identity and right of return, and the need to pass on belonging to Palestine and its cause to new generations.

The gathering concluded by affirming that Palestine will remain present in conscience and memory, and that national rights are not lost by the passage of time
