Istanbul – FiMED

A long-awaited breakthrough is on the horizon for Palestinians living in Türkiye, with new moves within the Turkish migration authority to deal with the pending files of Palestinian passport holders, alongside preparations to open the appointment system to holders of the temporary protection card, the "kimlik".

The TR99 platform quoted a private source at the Turkish migration authority as saying the competent bodies are working to end problems related to the residency of Palestinian passport holders and to resolve the status of those with pending files.

According to the source, the current approach is that no Palestinian passport holder in Türkiye should be left facing a problem with their residency status, with existing files continuing to be reviewed and work under way to find solutions for cases that faced difficulties in the past.

"Kimlik" appointments to open within days

In a separate development, the source said the appointment system for holders of the "kimlik" temporary protection card is expected to open in the next few days, allowing applicants to book appointments and follow up on their paperwork with the competent authorities.

The development comes as thousands of Palestinians in Türkiye await solutions to files related to residency and temporary protection, with great importance attached to any measures that would regularise their legal status and ease access to services and official procedures.

The nature of the measures the migration authority will adopt and the mechanisms for handling the files, especially cases that have seen delays or complications in the past, are expected to become clear in the coming days.
