In a speech during the ceremony, the president of the Palestinian Conference in Turkey, Mohammed Mashinish, affirmed that national unity and joint Palestinian action are the foundation for confronting the challenges buffeting the Palestinian cause, noting that the Palestinian experience has proven the ability of the Palestinian people to close ranks at fateful junctures.
Mashinish called for supporting reconciliation efforts and strengthening unity at both the popular and leadership levels, invoking the symbolism of the martyrs Yasser Arafat and Sheikh Ahmed Yassin in Palestinian national history, and the prominent junctures in the Palestinian struggle associated with their names.
He also praised initiatives that celebrate the excellence of Palestinian students and nurture their talents, affirming that young people and students represent Palestine's hope, the leaders of the future and the bearers of its banner, and that investing in science and Palestinian energies is an investment in the homeland's future and in its sons' ability to serve their community and their cause.
Mashinish concluded his speech by stressing continued work to unite the Palestinian ranks, saying: "We will remain on the path of national unity until Palestine is liberated."
